CODEA STUDIO
During my masters at Elisava I went through a workshop with advertising agency, Codea studio. The theme of the workshop was to complete poster designs and screen printed apparel inspired by the concept of bootlegging.
BOOTLEG
THE FIRST PROJECT WAS COMPLETING A POSTER AND A SHIRT DESIGN. MY WORK WAS DESIGNED UNDER THE THEME OF ‘CHOSS’, A TERM USED IN ROCK CLIMBING. CHOSS IS LOOSE OR UNDESIRABLE ROCK FOUND IN MORE ADVENTUROUS CLIMBING PURSUITS.

For our second prompt we designed a one-page ad spread inspired by old school yellow pages, but in the style of a rave poster. An interesting combo.
My ad is a play on an ad for locksmith services.

This concept of bootlegging came from the urban philosophical design work of Boot Boyz Biz. An apparel company with exclusive releases of small batch products creating collections with ‘stolen’ ideas, images, and archived projects. They work with images that come from the thought of past philosophers, artists, scientists, designers, writers, etc.
During this workshop we took this practice into our designs. For my ‘choss’ shirt I collected archived images from rock climbing related content. I also played with 3D affect images which played nicely with contrasting type and are quite eye catching. The climbing shirt features iconic climbing topos, old school climbing equipment like pitons and a play on the branding for The North Face.
The prompts from Codea Studio brought about interesting results that were fun and motivating.
