ai type design
This type was designed over five weeks using artificial intelligence. Through my work with Mallo Gutierrez, we designed a type that expresses exploration through quantum entanglement.
AI TYPE DESIGN
OUR PROCESS INVOLVED INTENSIVE EXPLORATION in various ai prompting. our work was mentored by type designER and consultant, yvan martinez. designs were created using the most current programs specific to ai typography.
Our base type was sans serif, ‘noka’ which we modified into two variations to find the best results. One more bold and complex portraying the concept of two entangled particles. Another more simple and less eccentric TO EXPRESS THE CONNECTION.
Designing typeface with artificial intelligence opens up a new realm of potential. The process relies on human creativity to be shaped and ai allows for further exploration with more efficiency. The number of results that one is able to produce in a short timeframe is impressive. The process allows for program learning as the prompting is narrowed and critiqued. This project was a fine representation of designers can utilize the tools of ai to our advantage and expand the possibilities and workflows of future work.
Mallo and I enjoyed the experience of creating from the complex topic of quantum entanglement. As a concept on its own it is quite difficult to grasp. It pushed us to funnel down the complicated intricacies of quantum physics into a simple representation that could translate into type design. The end result was to depict how quantum entanglement is the unexplainable link between two particles in space. The color scheme of the type was inspired by some old school sci fi films but with a more modern feel.
The end results of combining such perplexing concepts was challenging and fun. I look forward to future design work utilizing artificial intelligence.
